The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
