The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It features our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the song choice.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional song composed by artist the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of the same name, the second release put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I suspect that fans of the sequel series will appreciate its presence.
Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the show's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.
Of course, the creators has already said that the series will have a few surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro appears as among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
