New Year's Celebrants Told to Wrap Up Warm with Wintry Weather Expected Throughout the UK
Forecasters are reporting a chilly start to the new year, with snowfall anticipated throughout a lot of the UK. Celebrants have been told to wrap up as sub-zero temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Events Go Ahead Despite Alerts
Edinburgh's iconic Hogmanay celebrations are expected to go ahead, following last year's calling-off. This is in spite of weather alerts for snow across northern Scotland.
"An icy New Year's Eve evening for those out celebrating, so additional clothing will be necessary," noted the Met Office.
Displays Under Mostly Clear but Cold Skies
Elsewhere in the UK, the weather is set to be ideal for fireworks displays, with no rain and good visibility. Temperatures are due to be cold, meaning additional clothing essential, as per forecasters.
To the north, conditions will be more overcast, but this is not anticipated to impact visibility for watching fireworks. "There is no expectation of low cloud, mist or murk, so you will likely be able to see fireworks, just not stars," remarked one forecaster.

As we enter Friday, advisories have been issued across Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and reaching London and the majority of the south-east of England.

Temperatures Expected to Drop Further
