Mikel Arteta Admits Extended Role Depends on Securing Major Honors.
As he approaches his sixth anniversary as manager, Mikel Arteta has admitted that his continued role with the club is fundamentally dependent to delivering trophies.
The Journey So Far: From Appointment to Present
The Spanish coach took over on December 20th, 2019 and soon guided the team to an cup win a short time later. But, that first major trophy stands as his only significant piece of silverware since succeeding Unai Emery.
“I can,” Arteta responded upon being asked about staying beyond 2027. “But it’s about today. And many things need to fall into place in the coming months as well to earn the right.”
He will mark the anniversary with a match versus Everton, the identical team Arsenal faced the day after his hiring was confirmed.
League Position and Pressure

Squad Setbacks
The squad faces the weekend fixture dealing with a fresh setback. Defender Ben White has been ruled out with a muscle problem that is anticipated to sideline him for a few weeks.
A Different Club
Despite the injury crisis and the high-stakes environment, Arteta feels the club's “objectives and communication” are vastly different from when he initially took over.
Arteta highlighted the squad's displays as a sign they are nearing their goal. “Consider the performances, all the club records that were shattered... We still have yet to do that [win trophies]. But that indicates the caliber we've reached.”
Arteta concluded, “That is a level that the Premier League has not seen before in the past. And our ambition is to achieve more lofty ambitions. And if we do that, I think we are on the proper course to winning.”
