Jujutsu Kaisen: The Execution Film Seeks to Fix the Anime's Major Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution is not entirely an brand-new movie. Instead, the newest film from the JuJutsu Kaisen supernatural series is a compilation of the show's sophomore season stitched together with the first two episodes of its next season, which kicks off the Culling Games storyline from the source material. This makes Execution, which recently received a latest teaser, the first way to watch the commencement of the forthcoming season ahead of its 2026 January debut. The film debuts in Japan on Nov. 7, and in North America on Dec. 5.

The Culling Games Arc

In the Culling Game arc, Top-tier jujutsu user Yuta Okkotsu is introduced in the television series and is assigned by sorcery authorities to eliminate his fellow student Yuji Itadori. Their much-anticipated fight takes place for the initial time on the big screen, and if the animation team at the studio have a treat as episodes 40 and 41 in store for fans this holiday season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may prove to be the surprise that we've been waiting for.

The "Thunderclap" Controversy

"Thunderclap" from the second season is often hailed as a top-tier scene in the history of anime, in spite of the major issues in 2023 when the episodes first debuted. It was claimed that the artists were facing crunch conditions to the point, and the final version that premiered at the time was incomplete and reportedly not what the team originally planned.

The Legendary Fight

The scene involves a much-hyped confrontation between two powerful sorcerers, Sukuna versus Mahoraga. It boasts experimental animation, masterful camera work, and thrilling combat. A subsequent physical media version gave the animators a chance to add additional scenes to enhance the battle. So it was plausible Execution could refine the sequence additionally. However, viewing the new trailer, it's difficult to determine if that confrontation has undergone further polishing. It'd be a shame if it hadn't, because a scene of that magnitude has to be experienced on the largest display with the finest quality available.

Season Two Success

The sophomore season of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become the award-winning series of 2024, and when the Thunderclap episodes were released back to back, it was the topic of conversation for weeks in the series' fanbase. Viewers had heard of the problems with the production, which made them value what they saw even more. People anxiously checked to see if the Blu-ray, released on March 18, would add any additional scenes to the fight or to see if it was polished at all, and were overjoyed to see precisely that, alongside color corrections, more motion, and different color grading.

The Film's Potential

But the physical release can only improve what has already been presented in the television version, whereas the film has the chance to do the sequence justice with more adjustments and completely new animated sequences.

A Crowning Achievement

At present, these episodes act as the pinnacle of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by the studio, particularly given the controversy they underwent at the time. It's garnered the attention of anime fans all over the globe, and the Culling Games arc is a much-expected plotline of next year. If Mappa wants to kick off the year perfectly, run back the anime's greatest sequence once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've witnessed to date.
