Jets Coach Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where he has been listed as critical but stable.

“Still unsure,” he added. “But I will say this, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

New York police shared video stills Monday of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries according to reports.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday about halfway between MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a child.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, after joining the team, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in March and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad during the entire campaign while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “I mean, he comes to the games all the time. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, played his first four seasons with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
