Former Doctor Charged with Assault Allegations Against Thirty-Eight Patients

Prosecutors have stated that a ex- physician stands accused of performing assaults involving 38 individuals who were under his care.

Details of the Serious Charges

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including acts against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Our prosecutors have diligently worked to support a thorough and intricate police inquiry, carefully reviewing the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Police Inquiry

The charges follow what investigators called a “complex investigation” into alleged assaults at medical facilities: a hospital in Stoke-on-Trent and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant will appear at the local magistrates' court on 20 January.

Breakdown of Offences

The charging documents outline the 45 sexual offences include:

  • 15 counts of assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempted penetrative assault.
