Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position following a further convincing loss against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I've received significant support from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Response
Slot lamented recurring shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with outcomes this poor.”
He finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, show everyone again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
