Anthony Joshua doubled down on his controversial comments about being prepared to “kill” his opponent during a media gathering in Miami on Wednesday.

The remarks were initially uttered on the previous day when the boxer was asked if he would show restraint against the social media star, responding that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming contest against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has attracted concern over the risk involved and the size difference between the two competitors.

Tyson Fury Labels AJ a “Classless Loser”

Former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury branded Joshua a “disgrace” for his extreme language.

But the 36-year-old fighter, explained his stance: “It's my job, we fight. We have a license that permits extreme violence.

“I'm sure many people don't comprehend it but this is what my job is. I just enjoy what I do. Whatever happens, happens - provided that my hand is raised, that's what's important, with all due respect.”

He added, “That's just the psychology we have to have as fighters. I don't know if other fighters think that way. Maybe they're a bit more conservative. The way my mind works. When you're in the squared circle, it's a risky thing. Everything can happen.”

“You wish your adversary leaves the ring safely, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed aware you just did your job. It was purely professional.”

Jake Paul's Incendiary Retort

Paul, a huge outsider in the heavyweight contest as a career cruiserweight, was no less combative in his response.

“This is a modern day combat sport,” he stated. “I'm ready. I want his strongest punches. I want there to be zero excuses when it's all over. We should kill each other.”

AJ will face Paul, 28, at Florida's arena in a fight many regard as a glaring mismatched contest, with some suggesting it should have been approved as an exhibition bout.

The official fight will be contested over 8 three-minute stanzas using regular 10oz padded gloves, with a specified maximum weight for Joshua.

He Claims He Was “Called In to Save” Boxing

Despite the graphic language used, the fighter said he has been “brought in to save” the sport of boxing.

“They want me to put an end to the Jake Paul show and I understand it and that's why I have to bear boxing on my back in this fight,” he concluded.

The news conference also had more humorous moments, with AJ smiling as Paul sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The final staredown passed peacefully, with Paul striking a bizarre posture before Joshua stayed calm and lightly touched his chain.

Paul & Joshua Deny Pre-Arranged Allegations

The surreal nature of this bout has led to questions about its legitimacy, including claims that Joshua may be restricted from scoring a knockout.

“There are no clauses in the contract, Joshua can attest to it. We're going to battle,” Paul said.

Joshua, wearing a valuable necklace, jokingly added, “The only thing in the agreement that got my attention was the purse.”

He has stated on social media that the fight earnings will be exceptionally large.

Jake Paul first gained fame as an online prankster, amassing a massive social media following.

He has not faced anyone of the former champion's pedigree but insisted that his opponent would take him seriously.

“It's a wise move on his part,” he commented. “This could potentially be, and will be, the greatest defeat of his life.”

A win for the underdog would be perhaps the most shocking surprise in the sport's annals.

It would certainly leave an permanent stain on his legacy, but the fighter stated it would not spell the end.

“I would come back again, shake it off,” he said. “I will be main eventing again in a couple of years. That's life. I'm a competitor in the sport.”
