Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family go about their simple existence.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to evolve comedy past its prevailing layer of irony. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
