A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a second term in office.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
